Sixth package of sanctions against Russia including a ban on oil imports
The European Commission announced to the European Parliament a new package of restrictive measures against Russia; it is pending the unanimous approval of the Council before being implemented.

It proposes a progressive ban on Russian oil imports and an embargo on refined products by the end of the year, so that “there is time to secure alternative supply routes and minimise the impact on global markets.”
The Commission also proposes disconnecting new banking entities, including Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, from the SWIFT financial messaging system. Finally, it moots suspending the emission in the EU of three Russian television channels which, in the Commission’s view, repeat “disinformation and lies” of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
