New Communique from the European Commission on energy prices
Being required respond to the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on gas prices, the European Commission proposed essentially three types of measures

First, it opened the door to examining “all possible options to limit the contagion effect of gas prices, such as temporary price limits,” in order to propose actions in the “coming weeks.” Secondly, it proposed greater relaxation of State aid rules. Thirdly, it announced a new legislative proposal to guarantee gas reserves in the EU and called on the European co-legislators to make the “Fit for 55” package more ambitious. It considered this crucial significantly to reduce dependence on Russian gas in this decade.
