“Europe as a mission”: priorities of the forthcoming Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU (second half of 2022)
The Czech Republic provided a preview of what its priorities will be when it assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 July. In the current geopolitical context, one of these will be to manage the refugee crisis and contribute to peace and reconstruction in Ukraine.

Moreover, to guarantee energy security by contributing to the implementation of the RePowerEU plan, progress negotiations on the Fit for 55 package proposals, address joint gas purchases, promote sustainable mobility and the TEN-T, continue the debate about the role of gas and nuclear energy and to implement instruments to reduce the social and economic impact of high energy prices.
It will also work to enhance the EU’s defence capabilities and cyber security and to promote the strategic resilience of the European economy. In this regard, it highlights the priorities of strengthening supply chains, concluding trade agreements, transatlantic cooperation, accelerating the digitalisation and automation of industry, promoting the circular economy and deepening the internal market, in particular as regards services and digital.
