As part of its Council of Presidents, BusinessEurope presented the “Prague Declaration” for the forthcoming Czech Presidency of the Council, laying out the priorities of the business community for the second half of the year.

It stresses, firstly, the need to address the economic consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. To do this, it insists that sanctions must be carefully designed and accompanied by clear guidelines and that a realistic diversification strategy must be developed as a matter of urgency, as well as on accelerating the integration of the European energy market, relaunching the European industrial strategy and promoting an ambitious trade policy.

Secondly, it highlights the importance of adapting medium- and long-term policies to the new geopolitical reality. To this end, it is crucial for the future Council Presidency to ensure that the legislative proposals presented have workable standards to sustain business competitiveness, and to eliminate barriers in the internal market and accelerate its digitalisation.

You will find this and other key issues in European news, as well as a look at the main meetings at the European institutions during the week of 6-10 June, in our newsletter “EU in the Headlines”.
