HM The King, Felipe VI, granted an audience to a major Chilean delegation of more than 70 businesspeople from various sectors of the country, led by the President of the Confederation of Production and Commerce, Juan Sutil, and the Elected Board Member of SOFOFA, Andrés Montero (President of the Chilean chapter). They were accompanied by the President of the CEOE, Antonio Garamendi, the President of CEOE International, Marta Blanco, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ibero-American Business Council-CEIB, Narciso Casado.

Prior to that, a conference took place at the CEOE, under the title “Chile-Spain; advantages and opportunities of complementary economies”; it was opened by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto; the President of the CEOE, Antonio Garamendi; his counterpart from the CPC, Juan Sutil; and the Director General of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, Inmaculada Riera. The event, which was held as part of the 6th meeting of the Chile-Spain Extraordinary Council, is just one of the events included in the schedule of activities planned for the delegation during its high-level visit to Spain.

The Council’s objectives and business opportunities

During the audience with HM The King, the Presidents of both business organisations highlighted the importance of enhancing bilateral relations, to which the Chile-Spain Business Council, which was relaunched in 2019, which is a tool for private cooperation and whose purpose is to promote business opportunities between the two countries, makes an undoubted contribution. They said that this Council is an effective instrument of business diplomacy, which facilitates trade in goods, services and investments between Chile and Spain.

Business leaders stressed that this is the first high-level visit of such a large and significant business delegation to Spain since the outbreak of the pandemic. They also discussed the hectic schedule of activities that will take place during this visit these days, which began today with the event held at the CEOE, and which will continue with a series of visits to technology and innovation parks, educational centres and the Congress of Deputies, as well as holding numerous bilateral meetings with representatives of Spanish companies from various sectors. On Thursday, they will continue their visit with a trip to Seville, where a bilateral business meeting will take place at the head office of the Andalusian Confederation of Employers (Confederación de Empresarios de Andalucía-CEA).
