The General Assembly of the Morocco-Spain Economic Council (CEMAES) was held on 12 May, being attended by the President of the CEOE, Antonio Garamendi, the President of the CGEM, Chakib Alj, the Spanish Ambassador to Morocco, Ricardo Díez-Hotchleitner, and the Ambassador of Morocco to Spain, Karima Benyaich.

During the Assembly, the new Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the Council were appointed. On the Spanish side, the presidency will be held by Clemente González Soler, at the proposal of the CEOE. On the Moroccan side, Adil Rais assumed the presidency, at the proposal of the CGEM. The respective Vice-Presidents, whose appointment was also formalised today, are José Ignacio Pino de la Chica and Ayman Cheikh-Lahlou, respectively.

The Council thanked the previous Presidents, Mario Rotllan and Salaheddine Kadmiri, for their work.

The meeting highlighted the new momentum in bilateral relations and the role played by CEMAES as an instrument for fostering business cooperation and for promoting joint exploitation of the respective comparative advantages and the complementarity of the two economies. Thus, it is important to work together both bilaterally and in third markets, since both countries represent a gateway to Africa and Latin America, which opens a pathway to initiate joint cooperation projects. The new Presidents were tasked with preparing a new roadmap.

The Morocco-Spain Economic Council (CEMAES) was created by signing of a collaboration agreement in 2013 in Rabat in the presence of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain and Morocco and government officials from both countries, between the Confédération Générale des Entreprises du Maroc (CGEM) and the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations (CEOE). The main aims of the Council, which brings together entrepreneurs from both countries, are to promote bilateral business collaboration and to enhance bilateral trade relations, as well as to foster reciprocal investment.
