CEOE International meets the Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa in Spain
On 11 October, the president of CEOE International, Marta Blanco, met the new ambassador of the Republic of South Africa in Spain, Sankie D. Mthembi-Mahanyele. The First Political Secretary of the South African Embassy, Makwatse Bertha Mokgethi, and Miguel Brunete, CEOE International’s Africa technician, also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, the economic and business vision and priorities of the country were assessed, as was the potential for collaboration with the South African Embassy in Spain. Thus, they agreed to continue to work together on new initiatives and activities to drive the presence of Spanish companies in this African country.
They also underlined the importance of boosting bilateral business cooperation between the two countries in sectors such as agro-industrial, energy, automotive, infrastructure, railways, banking, the blue economy and tourism.
South Africa’s economy is one of the most developed on the continent, which is apparent in the strength of its service sector. In 2021, it saw 4.5% growth and its GDP rose 1.9% in the first quarter of 2022, representing the second consecutive quarter of growth. Bilateral trade relations between Spain and South Africa show a historic trade surplus in favour of Spain. Currently, Spain has a positive balance of 157 million euros and coverage of 113%. Spain’s cumulative investment stock in South Africa is 857 million euros.
