Southeast Asian authorities showcase business opportunities in the region

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the creation of ASEAN and the 40th anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic relations between the EU and Asia.

The Vice President of CEOE, José Vicente González; the Deputy General Director of Trade Policy with Europe, Asia and Oceania, María Aparici; the General Director of Casa Asia, Ramón María Moreno; and the Indonesian ambassador and President of the ASEAN Committee in Madrid, Yuli Mumpuni Widarso, opened a business meeting at the headquarters of CEOE to analyse the business and investment opportunities offered by Southeast Asia.

The meeting was organized on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the creation of ASEAN and the 40th anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic relations between the European Union and Asia. In addition to the Indonesian ambassador, there were other guest speakers, like the ambassadors of Malaysia, Zainal Abidin Bakar; Philippe Jones Lhuillier, of the Philipines; Rattikul Chansuriya of Thailand; and the minister of Vietnam, Ly Duc Trung.

CEOE’s Vice-President, José Vicente González, pointed out that the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015 represented a major step in the process of economic convergence, which places this region as the third largest economy in Asia. In this regard, González stressed that CEOE strongly supports the ratification of the free trade agreements signed between the European Union with Vietnam and Singapore, as well as the negotiations that the EU maintains with the rest of the ASEAN countries to reach similar agreements.
