The former CEP presidents, Jose Manuel Fernández Alvariño and Luis Novoa Díaz, who was unable to attend, were also awarded the same recognition.

Likewise, the founding associations of Pontevedra’s Confederation that are still part of it today (Sanatorios y Clínicas, Confección, Feprohos, Servicar, Asema and Materiales para la Construcción y Obras Públicas) were publicly acknowledged at the event.

Medals were also presented to the CEP-AEP Cross-Border Cooperation, and both entities agreed the medals should go to Mr Emídio Gomes, Former President of the Coordination and Development Commission for the Northern Region (CCDR-N), and to the Xunta de Galicia, for their work in promoting cooperation in the Galicia-Northern Portugal Euroregion.

In recognition of their help in promoting Pontevedra’s business base, Banco SabadellGallego also received an award, which was received by its General Director, Pablo Junceda.

In his speech, the President of the CEP, Jorge Cebreiros, highlighted the effort made by the business sector in order to achieve greater progress and socioeconomic development for the province of Pontevedra.

He also recalled that the legitimacy of the CEP comes from the Constitution, of which the Confederation is a strong advocate. "The CEP will not support anyone who seeks to undermine the principles of our coexistence and our Rule of Law," he said.

On the other hand, Cebreiros asked entrepreneurs to support and show their commitment to the Confederation so that it may continue to be, as it has for the last 40 years, the voice that defends and conveys the interests of the business community.

He recalled the great role of the directors and founding partners, their dedication and efforts and he thanked them for their generosity and the time invested in the business association. For this reason, the president of the CEP explained, the motto chosen for this main event of the 40th Anniversary celebration was "Looking towards the future, committed to our history." Along this line, he urged for the maintenance of unity, not to be confused with uniformity, in the face of current challenges, which, he said, required "having clearly defined ideas, generosity and high morals".

He urged to continue defending the role of entrepreneurs, even if differences are respected. “We must make any business claims jointly. The goals we intend to achieve must be conveyed through a representative and cohesive voice. Unity is a fundamental factor of trust and credibility", he concluded.

The event was attended, in addition to representatives from associations and directors of companies in Galicia and the North of Portugal, by numerous personalities and authorities, such as the President of CEPYME, Mr Antonio Garamendi Lecanda and the Vice President of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda Valenzuela, among others.
