She also held the position of advisor within the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Commerce (1996-1999) and was head of the Support Unit of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. She has also been a member of the Boards of Directors of ICEX, AENA, CESCE, PYMAR and Expansión Exterior.

Within this new department, Narciso Casado is appointed as Director General, a position that he will combine with his current one as Head of the President’s Cabinet and Protocol. Casado (1964) holds a degree in Information Science with a specialization in International Relations from the Complutense University of Madrid.

With a career that expands over 31 years at CEOE, he is currently the Head of CEOE’s President’s Cabinet and of the International Relations Department and the permanent general secretary to the Council of Iberoamerican Businessmen (CEIB). He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Cooperation Fund for Water and Sanitation, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (since 2016), an advisor to ICEX-Spain Exports and Investment and a member of the Ibero-American Arbitration Centre (CIAR) (since 2015).

He has also been a member of the Economic and Social Council (ESC) (2013-2015). In addition, he is a member of the Executive Committee of Spain’s Chamber of Commerce. In 2016, he was awarded with the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Queen Isabella the Catholic.

More than 150 activities

Every year, CEOE organizes, on average, more than 150 international activities -forums, work meetings, business meetings, official trips and business delegations-nationally and internationally, with the aim of tending bridges to other institutions, promoting international trade, promoting bilateral investments and defending the interests of Spanish companies abroad.

Since the drastic reduction of exports in 2009 due to the global crisis, Spanish exports have increased 74% until 2017. In 2017, exports stood at 34.1% of GDP, setting Spain as one of the most open economies in the area. In addition, during said period, Spanish companies that export regularly have gone from 40,000 to 50,000 and the total number of exporting companies reached 150,000.

Due to the increased presence of Spanish companies abroad, CEOE has decided to move forward in the consolidation of a department that, in recent years and thanks to the intense work of the International Relations team, has grown exponentially, with the creation of this new CEOE International Department.
