CEOE MAINTAINES ITS ECONOMIC GROWTH FORECAST AT 2.8% FOR 2018 AND 2.6% FOR 2019

In 2018 and 2019 there will be around 825,000 new jobs.

In 2018, the Spanish economy continues to record very solid growth, which enables progress in correcting imbalances. As a consequence, the growth forecast is maintained at 2.8% for this year, compatible with a very gradual slowdown that will continue through 2019, and 2.6% for next year, according to the Quarterly Report on the Spanish economy prepared by CEOE’s Economic Research Unit under the Department of Economic and European Affairs.

These estimations match the upward revisions from most of the international institutions, which forecast GDP growth at around 2.8% (among them the IMF and the Funcas Panel) and the 2.9% foreseen by the European Commission.

In the first quarter, activity and employment showed a positive trend, with GDP growth set at 0.7%, above its European partners, and a remarkable dynamism in the number of workers registered with the Social Security, which posted a new maximum in May (an increase of 237.2 thousand people).
