CEOE forecasts a GDP growth of 2.5% in 2018

CEOE has revised its forecasts for the Spanish economy and foresees GDP growth of 2.5% (2.8% previously) in 2018, taking into account that the impact of the political and economic uncertainty generated by the crisis in Catalonia will be moderate and it will imply a lower than expected growth rate in the fourth quarter of 2017 and throughout 2018, as stated in the "Economic Outlook" prepared by the Research Services Unit under CEOE’s Department of Economic and European Affairs.

The report underlines that, in line with these forecasts from the business organization, the European Commission, in its latest fall report, indicates that the Spanish economy will increase by 3.1% in 2017 and 2.5% in 2018.

CEOE believes that the economy grew at a healthy pace in the third quarter, as indicated by the Spanish National Institute’s estimation, which points to a GDP quarterly growth of 0,8%. This would mean a slight slowdown in comparison to the previous quarter (0.9%), while the year-on-year rate would still be set at 3.1% for this quarter. Some slowdown was also seen in consumption and investment, and, therefore, growth in the fourth quarter may be lower.
