Ana Pastor said that one of the most important things in this area is to try to end the high rates of unemployment among the young and that, in addition to the Administration and the social partners, universities and vocational training centres (which should be given more relevance) should also become involved in this challenge.

She also pointed out that another important aspect that needs to be taken into account is the basic professional skills of the active population. She also underlined the need for continuous training at the job, which enables being promoted within the company and professional progress.

The session was attended by Ana Plaza, CEOE’s secretary general, and Josefa González Bayo, second vice-president of the Committee on Employment and the Social Security, who acted as moderator of the colloquium held with the MPs of the different parliamentary groups that are members of the Committee on Employment and the Social Security.

In addition, José Antonio Sarría, president of CEOE’s Training Commission, presented the White Paper mentioned above and emphasized that this document offers an alternative, agile and effective model to overcome the failure of the system after the 2015 reform. It has been developed with an approach that is in line with what is followed in Europe’ s most developed countries, and it seeks to improve the competitiveness of companies and of the economy; of the productivity and of the qualification of the workers.

Other participants included MP from the PP’s Parliamentary group, Alfonso Candón; from the Socialist group, Rafael Simancas; from Unidos Podemos-En Comú Podem, Aina Vidal; from Ciudadanos, Sergio del Campo, and Carlos Campuzano from the Mixed Parliamentary group (PdeCat), who all applauded CEOE’s initiative of preparing this book and discussing its proposals with the Parliamentary Committee on Employment and the Social Security.
